Jeremy Tolbert has wonderful news: “It can now finally be revealed that my story “Not by Wardrobe, Tornado, or Looking Glass” will be appear in Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy 2017. This marks my first ever Year’s Best reprint. It’s a high honor to be included alongside these authors, including Nora Jemisin, Greg Van Eekhout, Caroline M. Yoachim, and many more.”

Fran Wilde also has awesome news: “I’m delighted to be working with Patrick Nielsen Hayden, Lee Harris, Irene Gallo and the fantastic team at Tor.com Publishing on two new Gem Universe novellas, I cannot wait to share them with readers! The Fire Opal Mechanism and The Book of Gems are set in the same world as The Jewel and Her Lapidary (Tor.com Publishing, 2016) and the short story “The Topaz Marquise” (Beneath Ceaseless Skies). The Fire Opal Mechanism will be published in 2018.”

Rhonda S. Garcia wanted to tell us: “Just wanted to share my good news. I have a new short up today in the final issue of Truancy Magazine. The issue has some great stories and is dedicated to retellings of myths and legends from Africa, or the African diaspora. Mine is called The Bois, and is a futuristic take on the myth of Papa Bois from my own country.” You can find Rhonda’s story here.

David Busboom wrote to tell us: “Earlier this year I sold my story “Can’t Stop Here” to AUTOMOBILIA from Fahrenheit Books, and my story “Three Hundred Pieces” to HEROIC FANTASY from Flame Tree Publishing. Neither has been released yet, but both are expected later this year, probably by the end of the summer! Both of these stories were greatly improved by putting them through the workshop, and I wouldn’t have sold them without the OWW.”

Jeremy Tolbert got some great news: “I just got word from Trevor at Analog that he’s going to buy my story “The Dissonant Note.” This marks my first sale to Analog!” Jeremy also sold the next novella in his Dungeonspace series, “The Dragon of Dread Peak” to Lightspeed.

Peter Mackey sends great news: “I’m happy to announce that my short story “Poisoned” has just been published at The J.J.Outre Review. Volume III, Issue 1/2  I workshopped this on OWW last year as “Eunice and Harold Chill Out,” receiving very helpful crits from Boz Flamagin, Cecil Harvey, L.S.Everett, Gregor Hartmann, and others. Beth Cato has big news. Harper Collins Voyager will publish the third book of her geomancer trilogy next year. Watch for Roar Of Sky in 2018.

Elizabeth Bear has announced a new Karen Memory novella titled Stone Mad, bought by Tor.com Publishing and scheduled to be released in 2018. Also watch for the first book in her new Lotus Kingdoms trilogy The Stone in the Skull coming in October 2017.

Gregor Hartmann shared some great news: “My story “Everyone Is Rising,” which was critiqued here about two years ago, has been published in the current (February) issue of Perihelion. The editor said he liked it — except for the last page. So I wrote an alternative ending. He didn’t like that, and proposed a second alternative ending. I didn’t like that, so I wrote a third alternative ending. We tinkered with the last two sentences and finally got the ball across the goal line.”

Suzanne Lazear wrote: “The book I workshopped on OWW came out in 2012 (Innocent Darkness), the sequels in 2013 and 2014 (the Aether Chronicles Series) . I had a new series start in 2016 (The Secret Lives of Rockstars) with the next book releasing in 2017. Thanks!”

Graham Brand wrote to say: “The first story I workshopped here at OWW, “The First Hundred”, has just appeared in issue 27 of Neo-Opsis magazine. Thanks again for the crits.”
